Sometimes it’s hard to find that perfect gift and we’re here to help. Since our first Gift Guide went over so well, we decided to bring it back this year. Just click on the image to be taken to Amazon to purchase it!
A small bit of disclosure first,: I do receive a very small bit of commission for any item ordered through our Amazon links. It helps keep the site up and running since we have no ads!
I’ve also not included prices as each item below did fit into the categories when researched. If the prices change blame Amazon not us.
Let’s get down to business. This guide is broken down into a few different monetary categories to make it easier to decide how much you really care about someone:

“Directed by Academy Award® winner Steven Spielberg, Jaws set the standard for edge-of-your-seat suspense quickly becoming a cultural phenomenon and forever changing the movie industry. When the seaside community of Amity finds itself under attack by a dangerous great white shark, the town’s chief of police (Roy Scheider), a young marine biologist (Richard Dreyfuss) and a grizzled shark hunter (Robert Shaw) embark on a desperate quest to destroy the beast before it strikes again. Featuring an unforgettable score that evokes pure terror, Jaws remains one of the most influential and gripping adventures in motion picture history. “
Everyone has seen JAWS at least once in their lives. But now see it in amazing HD quality with this amazing blu-ray. I picked this up when it first came out and was blown away by the detail you could now see in every scene. It was like watching the movie for the first time all over again. Even Ceej, who isn’t a fan of this, thought this was an amazing blu-ray. Highly recommended for those of you with awesome AV setups and great tastes in movies.
Operation Star Wars Edition -(Tom)
“Your favorite silly skill game just added out-of-this-world excitement. R2D is on the blink and looking for a steady hand to help. Can you repair a cranky crankshaft or a hiccupping hologram? Follow the Game card instructions and hope the Force is with you – one wrong move and your electronic gameboard will sound the alarm. Your favorite funny skill game goes galactic with repairs to R2D2. Use your tweezers to extract a lodged lightsaber and other Funatomy features. Earn Galactic credits to win with every successful “surgery.” Comes with Gameboard and tweezers, 24 Game cards, 12 Plastic Funatomy parts, Galactic Credits, Storage Drawer and Instructions.”
This is freaking awesome. I would have loved this as a kid. Actually, screw that. I need to buy this. So awesome.
“This black sleeveless T-shirt has vertical slashes on the top front and back. Looks like Freddy Krueger’s handiwork! The movie title is featured along the back bottom hemline.”
Tom likes his women in slutty clothes. I can’t say I disagree with him.
Secret Broadcast – Hungry Ghost – (Rob)
This is Lesley’s cousin’s band. They are pretty great. I highly recommend you grab this album. Help support an awesome band.
“It has been eight years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive. Assuming the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. For a time the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the anti-crime Dent Act. But everything will change with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda. Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile. But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane. “
I wasn’t the biggest fan of this flick in the theater due to problems I had with the script. That being said, the opening plane scene is one of the best action scenes in a movie I’ve seen all year. If you can get past Bane’s silly voice and some of the poor story choices then you may enjoy this much more than I did. Of course I bought it though. Had to complete the set. I feel dirty.
“In this terrifying tale of humanity’s desperate stand against a robot uprising, Daniel H. Wilson has written the most entertaining sci-fi thriller in years.
Not far into our future, the dazzling technology that runs our world turns against us. Controlled by a childlike—yet massively powerful—artificial intelligence known as Archos, the global network of machines on which our world has grown dependent suddenly becomes an implacable, deadly foe. At Zero Hour—the moment the robots attack—the human race is almost annihilated, but as its scattered remnants regroup, humanity for the first time unites in a determined effort to fight back. This is the oral history of that conflict, told by an international cast of survivors who experienced this long and bloody confrontation with the machines. Brilliantly conceived and amazingly detailed, Robopocalypse is an action-packed epic with chilling implications about the real technology that surrounds us. “
I grabbed this on whim a few months ago and I glad I did. This book plays out much like World War Z but in my opinion, is much more entertaining. Steven Spielberg is making this into a movie and while I’m excited for it, there are definitely some scenes in this I just can’t see working on screen as well as they did in the book. If you like robots, sexbots, and robot war, check this book out. You won’t be disappointed.
“Keanu Reeves (The Matrix) and Alex Winter (The Lost Boys) star in this outrageous comedy about two ditzy dudes from San Dimas, California. Bill (Winter) and Ted (Reeves) spent so much time forming their rock band, The Wyld Stallyns, that they’re flunking history. A guardian angel from the future, Rufus (Carlin) come to them with a bodacious solution: a time traveling phone booth to take them into the past to learn from history’s most influential people. Their journey turns out to be a blast…but will they learn enough to pass their class?”
This movie should not work. At all. But guess what? It totally does. It still stands up today. Here’s hoping we get that fabled 3rd flick in the Bodacious Trilogy.
“Ever wake up in the morning and feel groggy and disoriented? Every morning? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. We’ll admit to being zombies in the morning hours, which is probably why we schedule most of our important meetings for after lunch. “
Grab these slippers to make every day a zombie day.
Minecraft Pickaxe -(Rob)
“You’re in a meeting. You need to escape. You need your freedom! Sadly, escaping a meeting isn’t the same as getting away from Zombies and Creepers. You can’t just tunnel your way out… Or maybe you could if you just had the Minecraft Foam Pickaxe!Replicating the stone pickaxe from Minecraft (data value 274 to be precise), the Minecraft Foam Pickaxe is an officially licensed Minecraft product. Okay, so a foam pickaxe is probably not going to bash through solid rock (or even soggy drywall for that matter), but with this baby in your hand you’ll feel like you can. And after all, isn’t it more important to have the confidence that you could smash things when you’re trapped in a room with crazy people? The Minecraft Foam Pickaxe is made from sturdy EVA foam, which means that unlike the stone pickaxe in the game, the Minecraft Foam Pickaxe will withstand far more than 132 uses. EVA makes the Minecraft Foam Pickaxe a sturdy tool, hefty yet with enough cushion that you’ll feel comfortable bashing a wide variety of materials. And of course, this is an officially licensed Minecraft product, which means you’re making Notch happy too. “
Nerds really like Minecraft. I don’t personally get it as I’d rather just play with legos, but there you go. Buy your loved one a foam pick axe to show them how much you really care.
“In this thrilling 2 disc DVD retrospective, fans will find everything they’ve ever dreamed of as they enter the world of A Nightmare on Elm Street like never before: exploring what spurred mastermind Wes Craven to craft the first groundbreaking film; delving deep behind the scenes of the original and all of it’s sequels; learning how the cast and crew brought their real nightmares to life on screen; and, finally, understanding the impact the series and it’s mythos have had on modern pop culture and the horror genre.”
This double disc set is one of my favorite documentaries I’ve ever watched. If you are a Freddy fan then you don’t want to miss out. Hearing Peter Jackson’s take on the NOES film he wanted to do will blow your mind.
Jenga Donkey Kong – (Rob)
“With this crazy Donkey Kong Jenga, you’ll carefully build and balance the tower as your Mario climbs his way to the top! Spin the spinner and make your move. . .the Mario that reaches the top and saves Pauline from Donkey Kong wins – unless the tower falls first! Holes at the ends of each block allow Mario to “climb” the tower, with help from ladders, springboards, and hammers that you can earn with a lucky spin! Includes custom Mario, Donkey Kong, and Pauline playing pieces, fifty wooden Jenga blocks, a custom spinner, and a loading tray to help assemble the tower. For all the suspense of Jenga and the fun of your favorite DK characters, try Donkey Kong Jenga! For ages 6 and up.”
Once again, as a kid and an adult, this is too cool. Jenga is fun as hell after a few drinks.
“Horror master John Carpenter (Halloween, The Thing) directs this heart-pounding thriller. Aliens are systematically gaining control of the Earth by masquerading as humans and lulling the public into submission. Humanity’s last chance lies with a lone drifter who stumbles upon a harrowing discovery : a unique pair of sunglasses that reveals the terrifying and deadly truth. “
No explanation needed. Buy it, love it, OBEY.
“From Joss Whedon, the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Drew Goddard, writer of the monster movie phenomenon Cloverfield, comes the horror film to end all horror films! All will be revealed in the Official Visual Companion, featuring in-depth interviews, the full screenplay by Whedon and Goddard, stunning production art, and hundreds of color photos!”
This flick was a blast. One of my favorite horror flicks to come out all year. The film was packed with all sorts of hidden images, references, and more. Now with this book, see what you may have missed the first time around. Highly recommended.
Cards Against Humanity – (Rob)
“Unlike most of the party games you’ve played before, Cards Against Humanity is as despicable and awkward as you and your friends. ”
This card game is one of the best games I’ve ever played. My friends and I are horrible human beings and this game rewards that. Highly recommended.
“A genuinely inspired amalgamation of fantasy tropes liberally frosted with absurd humor, the animated series Adventure Time is a charmingly cracked confection that deserves its devoted cult following. Set in a faraway kingdom called Ooo, the series follows the caffeinated adventures of Finn the Human (Jeremy Shada) and his bespectacled talking dog Jake (John DiMaggio, Futurama) as they thwart the misunderstood but mostly evil Ice King (Tom Kenny, SpongeBob SquarePants) from his regular attempts to kidnap Princess Bubblegum (Hynden Walch, Teen Titans). Aiding them in their escapades are the bass-playing Vampire Queen (Olivia Olson, Phineas and Ferb), petulant extraterrestrial Lumpy Space Princess (voiced by series creator Pendleton Ward), and Beemo (Niki Yang), a sentient but playable video game console. The 26 mini-episodes that comprise the show’s first season pit the heroes against a dizzying array of oddities, including candy zombies in “Slumber Party Panic,” a pie-throwing robot (Andy Milonakis), and “Ricardio the Heart Guy,” a living heart suavely voiced by George Takei. But more often than not, the characters’ own personal issues make for the most inspired moments, most notably in “When Wedding Bells Thaw,” where Finn and Jake try to encourage the Ice King to give up his princess-kidnapping pursuits by throwing him a bachelor party. “
This is one of the best cartoons out right now. Kids love it and so do adults for good reason. It’s smart, funny, and oddly sweet. Plus everyone loves Jake and his bacon pancakes.
Mars Attacks [Hardcover] – (Rob)
“In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Mars Attacks, this comprehensive book is the first-ever compilation of the infamous science-fiction trading card series produced by Topps in 1962. Edgy, subversive, and darkly comedic, this over-the-top series depicting a Martian invasion of Earth has a loyal following and continues to win new generations of fans. For the first time, this book brings together high-quality reproductions of the entire original series, as well as the hard-to-find sequel from 1994, rare and never-before-seen sketches, concept art, and test market materials. Also included are an introduction by series co-creator Len Brown and an afterword by Zina Saunders, daughter of the original artist, providing an insider’s behind-the-scenes view of the bizarre and compelling world of Mars Attacks.”
The art in this book is fantastic. Most people will think of Tim Burton’s movie when they hear “Mars Attacks” but others remember the trading card set. And for good reason. The cards were some pretty messed up stuff for kids to collect. Now see them all in their glory in this fantastic hardcover collection.
$30 — $80
“This kit includes two of our most popular beer mixes and the 2-gallon fermenter is made from FDA-compliant plastic, which leaves no taste or flavor migration. Lightweight and shatter resistant, it has a wide mouth that allows for easy cleaning. The 8 reusable plastic bottles are made from Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) plastic, and they come complete with screw caps and labels. Hand wash keg and bottles in warm water with a soft cloth using mild, unscented soap, not dish soap, and avoid using scouring pads, wire brushes, or abrasives during cleaning. “
Tom and I both enjoy beer. Possibly too much. That being said, this kit is great for those beer drinkers that want to take their first step into the world of home brewing. While most homebrewers may scoff at this set, this is the perfect introduction to the world of home brewing. See for yourself if you have the patience and the knack for making your own beer before dropping a ton of money on better equipment.
XCOM: Enemy Unknown – (Rob)
“Threatened by an unknown enemy, the Earth’s governments unite to form a secret paramilitary organization, known as XCOM, to combat this extraterrestrial attack. As the commander of XCOM, you control the global defense team and its resources in a battle against the terrifying alien invasion.”
I’ve been a fan of this series since it first hit the PC back in 1994. This remake is easily my game of the year for 2012. It’s the type of game where you tell yourself you’re only going to do one mission and then you realize it’s been 5 hours and you’re still sucked in. Once of the best strategy games I’ve ever played. Highly recommended.
“At home or on the go, the SupaBoy plays your favorite Super Nintendo and Super Famicom cartridges anywhere you are. Portable or home console, the SupaBoy is the choice.”
Emulators are awesome but nothing beats plugging a real gamepak into a console. Grab this and then hit up your favorite second hand gaming stores to pick up your favorite SNES games from your childhood.
“Bring Mario Kart Wii to life! Build Mario and Luigi from the Starting Line of the Bowser’s Castle Track. The set includes the parts to build Mario and Luigi, 2 Sprinter Karts with super-fast battery-powered motors, a sound module with the starting sounds from the game and 2 collectible items from the game: a Mushroom and a Star! Also includes 16 pieces of build-able, inter connectable track that creates a closed loop- combine this set with other sets from the Mario Kart Wii Series to build even bigger tracks! Ages 6+. “
I see this set at Target every weekend. And every weekend I’m tempted to buy it. I’ve always been a fan of sets like this and the fact it’s Mario based with ACTUAL MOTORIZED KARTS? They even have other sets to make the tracks even crazier. Awesome.
“The Mass Effect series is a groundbreaking epic that has immersed gamers in one of science fiction”s richest universes. Now BioWare and Dark Horse are proud to invite fans deeper than ever into the Mass Effect saga with The Art of the Mass Effect Universe! Featuring concept art and commentary by BioWare on the games” characters, locations, vehicles, weapons, and more – Mass Effect 3 – The Art of the Mass Effect Universe is the most complete companion available to gaming”s most compelling series.”
Mass Effect is of the best sci-fi gaming experiences I’ve ever had. If you’ve never played any of the games in this series, DO IT NOW. Then come back here and order this amazing art book.
ZombiU – (Rob)
“London is falling! A great plague has enveloped the city in a fog of death. Humanity has been ravaged by infection, the diseased prowl through the streets, waiting to prey on your living flesh at every turn! ZombiU is built from the ground up to take full advantage of the WiiU and its revolutionary New Controller and will test your will to survive in a fear-fueled zombie Survival Horror First Person Shooter. Make every second count; you only get one chance. Stay Human. “
I purchased this and the WiiU on launch day. This game has been getting reviews that are all over the place. Some people hate it while others love it. I’m in the latter category. This game is amazing. I haven’t been this tense while playing a game involving zombies since the original Resident Evil back in the Playstation days. This is not a game where you run and gun. If you do that, you will die. A lot. This game is methodical as hell and your best chance at staying alive is keeping a cool head and cracking heads with your cricket bat. Much like the Demon Souls/Dark Souls games, when you die in this game you’re dead. You will lose all of your progress and will need to start back at the beginning. But you then have a chance to find your old self and BEAT THE SHIT OUT THEM to get your stuff back. Genius. If you have a WiiU, love zombies, and want a great game then this one is for you.
Super Mario Chess – (Rob)
“It’s a battle for the mushroom kingdom. Mario and Bowser are battling it out once again. This time in the classic strategy game of chess. Pick your team and take control of 32 hand-painted playing pieces. This one of a kind game is as much fun to play as it is to display. “
I used to be on the chess team. Yep. I was pretty good too. I always played with boring pieces. This would have been much more fun.
The Walking Dead – (Rob)
“The Walking Dead is an award-winning vision of Robert Kirkman’s global hit comic book series. Experience the true horror and emotional impact of being a survivor of the undead apocalypse in a zombie game unlike any other. You will meet people and experience events that will impact the story of Deputy Sheriff Rick Grimes, and you will be forced to make decisions that are not only tough, but that will have a direct effect on the story that you experience. The undead are everywhere, but they’re not your only problem. Starvation, betrayal, heartbreak and more will challenge you as you attempt to survive in the world of The Walking Dead. “
This game was one of the best gaming experiences I’ve ever had. These 5 episodes were better than all 3 seasons of the shitty show. Characters you actually care about? Check. One of the best kid characters in recent memory? Check. Decisions you make that make a difference in the game? Check. A gripping story? Check. Do yourself a favor and check this game out. You won’t be disappointed. Available on most platforms.
Apparently Tom never wants to have sex again. Actually, that’s unfair. I’d also wear the hell out of this, but I’m married. Lesley has to have sex with me.
“Featuring Mario and his friends and enemies through his evolution from 15 pixel high sprite to fully 3d-rendered hyperbeing. Do a faithful recreation of your favorite levels, or create your own, using your own space as a template.”
I totally had a version of these in my bedroom as a kid. My friends thought I had the best room ever. Make your room the best room ever with these awesome decals.
Zombie Cookie Jar Head – (Rob)
“Delicious chocolate chips braiinnnz. Do you think that if zombies had enough presence of mind to cook, that they’d bake things out of brains? We can imagine there being zombie bakeries, where they whip up brain-shaped cupcakes with frosting made from blended parietal lobe. (Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. It really adds a certain zing to cream cheese frosting. Way better than nutmeg, IMNSHO.) And of course, there’d have to be chocolate chip cookies with chunks of medulla oblongata. OMG, delish. Are you hungry all of the sudden? We are… Just crack open this zombie head, reach inside, and grab some cookies. We recommend at least 3. You don’t taste the first one, the second one is good but leaves you hungry, and the third one is the most satisfying. Maybe four cookies if you’re extra hungry, but five is right out. You want to stay fit enough to do your cardio (rule #1). “
This is just awesome. Pretty sure I’m getting this for myself.
Dexter Coasters – (Rob)
“Let visitors to your house know that spatters of any kind are unacceptable. You will not turn the other cheek, you will slice it! What civilized person puts a cup glistening with condensation on a bare wooden table? That’s why we have this set of blood-spattered Dexter coasters. (To put cups on, not to slice people with.) Can you imagine slicing someone open with a dull-edged coaster? That would take a great deal of effort. If you’re a fan of Dexter, serial murder, blood spatter, or just clean coffee tables, you should get your hands on this set of coasters. They’re made of clear glass with various blood spatter patterns printed on them. Rubberized feet underneath protect your table from scratches and keep things from sliding around. Of course, all bets are off if there’s blood spatter on the table because you already sliced the other cheek.”
I have a coaster addiction. I have so many sets of coasters it’s a bit sad. I’m not even sure why I have so many. I end up using the same 3-4 for everything. That being said, these are legit. Dexter is awesome and these would be a great conversation starter.
$90 – Expensive
“It’s the match-up that everyone has been waiting for – Batman vs. Bane, in exceptional statue form! This Batman Dark Knight Rises Batman vs. Bane 1:6 Scale Statue personifies the epic struggle between good and evil, as told in Christopher Nolan’s hit blockbuster Batman movie trilogy finale, The Dark Knight Rises. Every legend has an ending – will Bane be Batman’s undoing? This scene-stealing collectible is a hand-painted, cold-cast porcelain statue and is packaged in a 4-color box. Measures 16-inches tall. “
Tom really enjoys Batman. He’s pretty much obsessed. He also likes to collect statues and toys. This is something he would kill for.
“Includes: Black Wii U Console, one Black Wii U GamePad controller, Wii U GamePad Stand/Cradle Set, Wii U Console Stand, Nintendo Land Game Disc. “
I bought my WiiU on launch day. I still have absolutely no regrets about that purchase. If you’re a fan of Nintendo then this should be a no-brainer. If you got burned by the Wii, this may not be up your alley, but I recommend that you give it a chance. I haven’t had this much with friends since Rock Band first hit. The new gamepad opens up a whole new world of gameplay options. Just a fun experience in full HD….finally.
“Cemeteries have never exactly been heavenly playgrounds for fun, bliss, and youthful exuberance, but the 1968 George Romero classic Night of the Living Dead cemented the cemetery as a dreadful, terrifying hell where ghouls fed on the flesh of innocents. Pretty awesome, right? If you loved the Romero film and the sequels that followed you’re going to fall in love with this Night of the Living Dead Cemetery Zombie Bust! Sculpted by Christian Hanson with modification by Joy and Tom Studios, these 1:1 scale busts were sculpted in the U.S., and feature the likeness of Bill Hinzman, who would later become a fixture in American horror appearing in movies like the original The Crazies and FleshEater. A limited edition of 100 pieces, the Night of the Living Dead Cemetery Zombie Bust was authorized and approved by Bill Hinzman and Hinzman Productions. Ages 14 and up. “
God damn. This is a beautiful sculpt. I would KILL to have this. Alas, it’s a bit out of my price range at the moment. But don’t let that stop you. As I write this there are only 3 left in stock. Be the coolest kid on your block with this piece of art. They’re coming to get you…

Stepping straight out of your nightmares and onto the shelf, the Freddy Krueger Premium Format figure stands approximately 21 inches tall; an essential addition to any horror or film collection.”
I want to buy this so bad. SO BAD. I don’t tend to purchase items like this, but Freddy Krueger is one of my all time favorite screen monsters and this figure is amazing looking. Thanks to Sideshow Collectables you can even get a payment plan to fund your ridiculous man-child habits.

Re-Animator – Framed Original Stuart Gordon Storyboard Artwork “Intestine Breaks Out” – Authentic – (Rob)
“This item is a framed display of an original hand-drawn Re-Animator storyboard, done by director Stuart Gordon, who did his own storyboards for the film. This storyboard, which features the scene where Dean Hasley’s (Robert Sampson) intestines break out from his body, represents the first conception of the shots found in the final film. Gordon worked directly from this exact page on set, and the final shots in the film match the boards very closely. Additionally, the storyboard features Stuart Gorden’s signature (added recently.) The storyboard artwork is framed and glazed in a laser cut mount board with the movie logo. The display measures approximately 15″ x 15” (38cm x 38cm) and is in excellent condition. This item comes with a Prop Store Certificate of Authenticity. “
Re-Animator is one of my favorite movies of all time. Jeffrey Combs is the man. This would be a pretty awesome piece to hang up in your man cave.
LEGO Star Wars Jabba’s Palace – (Rob)
